The Ngenge Development Foundation is located in eastern Uganda, near the border with Kenya. As an active affiliate of the Humanitus Foundation, the Ngenge Development Foundation focuses on empowering indigenous communities and individuals through appropriate health practices, development, acceptance and education.
To achieve its aims, NDF works within communities to imrove the lives of the people of Kapchorwa district, many of whom are subsistence farmers. NDF recognises the importance of self-reliance, health, education, peace and proper work ethics as cornerstones to improved lives for all people.
The foundation's principles are:
- to believe in and support the equal rights and dignity of all people.
- to respect differences in people regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, language, religion, disability, sexual orientation, political background, education standard or health status.
- to promote empowerment and worth among the disadvantaged.
- to prioritise the needs of people with limited access to basic health and education resources.
- to acknowledge that all people are capable of learning.
- to recognise that education is not limited to in-house schooling.
- to value the importance of indigenous education.
- to acknowledge that education should respond to cross-cultural diversity.
- to develop partnerships with affiliates and other interested parties.

The foundation's objectives are:
- to strengthen regional and national education, health, farming and other resources.
- to initiate on-the-ground, grassroots seminars to share experiences and improve project practices.
- to promote the development of appropriate training courses for education workers.
- to support peer outreach.
- to establish and encourage school-based programs.
- to establish and encourage programs for out-of-school youth.
- to disseminate relevant educational material to teachers, medical staff, disadvantaged groups and individuals, parents, children and interested parties.
- to identify and train members of local communities to expand NDF work on a ongoing basis.
- to promote information flows between all interested parties.
- to work alongside affiliates and share a common goal of better lives for all.
NDF is an affiliate of the Humanitus Foundation.
